DAY 1 at The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

By Matt E. (the teenager, not the director)
Day 1 is over!
We held auditions today and did our best to act well for Matt. We started the day around 9ish with a warm up game to learn everyone's names. We had to invoke an action with every sylable of our names. For example, my name is Matthew. I did the superman/the thinker (from Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonean) for the MA part and for the TTHEW i did snap finger gun thing with my hands. it was fun. After that we did a cool excersize where we were given a specific script of lines but we had to invoke a certain meaning to the lines without changing the lines themselves. Next we practiced our two songs that we have to sing in the show during the fight scene: "poor wayfaring stranger" and "shall we gather at the river". Then we took a lunch break. I ate my lunch and talked with some of the girls. When we got back from lunch, we took a tour of our working space including the prop shop and met our technical director robert, we went backstage and looked in the green room, and Matt even let us look in the light and sound boxes! Then we came back and Matt told us to demonstrate some tactics that we should NOT use in our auditions such as mumbling, always looking at our scripts, standing still the whole ime, etc. Then the auditions began. First we auditioned using the roles of Injun Joe and Muff Potter when they are standing over the sleeping Tom, Huck, and Joe on Jackson's Island. Then we went to the scene with Mary and Walt Potter in the schoolhouse. After that we did the scene with Sid and Aunt Sally. Then finally we did the scene with Tom and Becky and the mushy stuff. We then got a pep talk and were told to look on this blog at 7:00 tonite for out cast list and we went home. Over all great day one! I guess i will see you all tommorrow!
Matt E.
